Applied Magic
40 years of Audiovisual Media at HdM Stuttgart
Applied Magic is an interactive installation created for the 40th anniversary of the Audiovisual Media study course at Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart. Visitors explore a magical media archive using a flashlight that triggers the exhibits to life: a miniature photo studio with dynamic lighting reflected live on a tablet above, a television that turns on when lit, a tape recorder that starts playing music, and a games console showing gameplay on trigger.
I contributed as lead of graphics, programming, and 3D in this student project. My work included:
- establishing graphics CI
- 3D modelling and printing the miniature photo studio
- programming of interactions in the still image and audio corridor
- coordinating labelling of over 100 exhibits:
- prototyping appearance of labels
- script for converting exhibit information (name, year, source) to 2D layout in CAD format (DXF)
- operating lasercutter
